DESCRIPTION
We recently helped a client of ours run ads on Reddit. In this post, we’ll show you his ads and the results we got with Reddit ads for his freelance consulting business. Our goal was to generate leads for his sales funnel and generate targeted traffic for his website. If you’re not familiar with Reddit, you can think of it as a large bulletin board where people can share and comment on different ideas, images and videos. It’s been around for more than 10 years and has over 430 million users. When we first started, the client was only targeting Google Ads (Adwords), and he wasn’t having any luck. A lot of his traffic was coming from Reddit, so we decided to put together some ads and see how they performed.
We started by creating a new subreddit for him where he posts articles related to his area of expertise. The content strategy was simple: he would post articles written by other people with his commentary added at the end (to get more context). We also used the sidebar to place a link to his website and contact information so that people could get in touch with him directly (or at least check out his website).
We created 3 different campaigns:
1. Targeting subreddits that were relevant to our target’s audience;
2. Targeting communities relevant to our target’s audience;
3. Targeting keywords related to our target’s industry.
The ad we used in all three campaigns was a text ad with an image that linked to our target’s blog post. We then ran those 3 campaigns for 1 week each, tracking their performance in terms of impressions. After seeing the results, it was clear that Reddit ads were a great option for him. It was a tough sell at first. The client was a bit skeptical of the platform and didn’t think it would perform that well. It’s not a social media platform that gets as much attention as Facebook and Instagram, but we were able to convince him to give it a shot. We generated over 10,000 impressions for just $0.10 per click (i.e., cost-per-click or CPC).
Hopefully, the above information has given you some insights into what it takes to run ads on Reddit. It’s not easy or cheap, and it requires a good amount of time, energy, and resources. But as many small business owners have learned, advertising on Reddit can be effective for generating leads for your business.
